The Pea Song

Dad wrote this while running pea combine when we first moved to Idaho, circa 1970-1971. As he notes, it’s written to the tune of Joan Biaz’s “I Still Miss Someone.” He inadvertently repeats the third stanza in the video, but the lyrics go like this:

Up my shoot the peas are rollin’
They roll by the pod and pound
Hard ones and soft ones together
Just hardly a makin’ a sound

Oh, I’ll never get over those green peas
I see them everywhere
I see those peas a-rollin’
Especially when I stare

I go out to a field
To pick a few peas
I find a weedy corner
And all I do is sneeze

Oh, I’ll never get over those green peas
I see them everywhere
I see those peas a-rollin’
Especially when I stare

I wonder if they’re peain’
And have a little fun
I know they’re peain’ somewhere
‘Cuz I just ate some

Oh, I’ll never get over those green peas
I see them everywhere
I see those peas a-rollin’
Especially when I stare

As a side note, dad was always making up little ditties on the fly, as they came to him. This is the only one I know of that was not ephemeral.
